Regents Awards

 

Regents Professor Award

The A&M System Board of Regents established the Regents Professor Award program in 1996.  The purpose of this Award is to recognize and honor individuals at the rank of professor or equivalent who have provided exemplary service as faculty members not only to their university, agency or health science center component, but also to the community, the state of Texas, and/or at the international level.  This award is specifically for faculty within the eleven A&M System institutions (including Galveston campus), the System Health Science Center, and the Agricultural and Engineering Programs.

 

Regents Fellow Service Award

The A&M System Board of Regents established the Regents Fellow Service Award Program in 1998.  The purpose of this Award is to recognize and honor service, extension and research professionals who have provided exemplary professional service to society that has created large and lasting benefits to Texas and beyond. This award is specifically for agency professionals in the eight A&M System agricultural and engineering agencies and is analogous to the Regents Professor Award Program.

Nomination Deadline

The 2020-2021 Regents Awards nomination deadline is June 30, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. This deadline will be strictly enforced.

Nomination Process

The nomination process is a two-step procedure.

The first step submission of a university or agency nomination packet.  Each university and agency has its own review and approval committee and process.

The second step, only for the university-approved nominees, requires the submission of additional materials in the online Nomination submission portal.

All nominations are coordinated and approved through the nominee’s respective university president/agency CEO or designee.  Please make sure to include the signed letter from the university president/agency CEO authorizing the nomination.

Selection Process

Selection Process

Regents Professor and Regents Fellow nominations are solicited every year.

Call for Nominations is issued by the Chancellor each February, for the current fiscal year, to all System Chief Executive Officers (CEO).  The CEOs initiate an internal nomination process within their respective organizations.  The CEO then submits their nominations to the Chancellor through the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Office by late June of the current year.

System components are not required to submit nominations for the Regents Awards each year.

Two System-level committees review all Regents Award nominations for eligibility requirements. Upon completion of the System review, and concurrence by the Chancellor, nominee recommendations are forwarded to the Board of Regents and formal action is requested to grant the designation of Regents Professor or Regents Fellow.  Action by the Board most often occurs at the December Board meeting.
