Pre-K Expansion Initiative

In November 2021, the Texas Workforce Commission approved an allocation of stimulus funding for the expansion of Pre-K partnerships throughout the state. A portion of these funds were directed to the Texas Education Agency to work with The Texas A&M University System to also support Pre-K partnership development.

These partnerships are designed to enhance educational outcomes. Formal partnerships create opportunities to secure additional funding, ensuring sustainable benefits for both the district and childcare providers. Our goal is to expand access to exceptional early learning opportunities that create lasting positive impacts across communities.

Pre-K Intermediaries

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has designated The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) as a statewide Pre-K Partnership Intermediary, a new role established through House Bill 2 to support the development and expansion of public-private prekindergarten partnerships across Texas.

Key responsibilities of the TAMUS Pre-K Partnership Intermediary include:

Recruiting high-quality prekindergarten providers and facilitating partnerships with school districts and charter schools
Supporting contract development, financial modeling, and partnership agreement negotiations
Promoting and supporting high-quality prekindergarten programming
Providing operational and technical assistance to partnership organizations
Conducting intermediary determinations and other responsibilities outlined by TEA
