In accordance with System Policy 11.04, each academic institution within TAMUS is required to submit its admissions standards for the upcoming academic year to the Board of Regents for review and approval. This process ensures that our admission policies provide equitable access to prospective students while effectively utilizing system resources, such as space, faculty, and funding.
Key Highlights of System Policy 11.04:
- All admissions standards are reviewed and, if necessary, revised annually with the involvement of the Chancellor before submission to the Board of Regents.
- The policy emphasizes impartiality in admission practices, ensuring fair access to all potential student populations.
- Institutions are encouraged to carefully consider the impact of admission requirements on students and to value these requirements in their admission decisions.
- Freshmen: applies to individuals who are current high school students (with or without college credit) or high school graduates who have not earned college credit post-graduation.
- Transfer: applies to individuals who have graduated from high school and have enrolled in a post-secondary institution, with or without earning credit, during a fall or spring semester.
- Graduate/Professional: applies to individuals who hold a bachelor’s or professional degree (or equivalent), seeking advanced degrees or professional certification.
Beginning with the 2025-26 admissions cycle, confirmation and revisions to admission standards will be submitted electronically via a new Laserfiche process.
