What should I do if I have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 and I have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days?
If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 and have recently (<90 days) recovered from a COVID-19 infection, the following guidelines should be observed:
- Masking
- Wear a well-fitting mask around others for 10 days from the date of your last exposure to someone with COVID-19 (the date of last exposure is considered day 0).
- Testing
- If your first positive test result was within the previous 30 days and you do NOT have symptoms, testing is not recommended to detect a new infection.
- If your first positive test result was within the previous 30 days and you have new symptoms, or if your first positive test result was within 31-90 days regardless of symptoms, you should use an antigen test ≥5 days after exposure (or sooner, if you are symptomatic).
- See specific testing recommendations for additional testing recommendations for those who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days.
- According to CDC guidance, you may continue to test positive for some time after testing positive for COVID-19. Reinfections can occur within 90 days, which can make it hard to know if a positive test indicates a new infection. Consider consulting a healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns about your individual circumstances.
