BUILDING AI LITERACY ACROSS THE A&M SYSTEM

The 2026 Student AI Learnathon is a systemwide initiative designed to help students across The Texas A&M University System build practical artificial intelligence skills, explore how AI can support their academic and career goals, and strengthen the judgment needed to use AI responsibly.

Taking place in October 2026, the Learnathon will bring together systemwide learning opportunities, campus activities, hands-on experiences, and a student-focused Buildathon.

The goal is simple: help students become more confident and capable users of AI while reinforcing an important message:

AI is a tool. Judgment is yours.

Why a Student AI Learnathon?

AI is changing how we learn, work, communicate, and solve problems. The Student AI Learnathon gives students from every major an opportunity to build practical skills while learning how to use AI effectively and responsibly.

Through the Learnathon, students can:

  • Build practical AI skills
  • Explore AI tools and applications
  • Learn how to evaluate AI-generated information
  • Understand responsible and ethical AI use
  • Connect AI skills with career readiness
  • Create and experiment with AI through the Student AI Buildathon

Campus Activities

Member universities may also offer their own activities throughout the Learnathon, such as:

  • Workshops and training sessions
  • Student organization events
  • AI demonstrations
  • Career-focused programming
  • Challenges and competitions
  • Faculty and student showcases

Programming will vary by campus, giving each university the opportunity to create activities that fit its students and priorities.

schedule

The Learnathon builds throughout October, moving from exploring AI to developing skills and putting those skills into practice.

Week 1 | Explore AI

Kick off the Learnathon by exploring what AI can do, where it is headed, and what it means for students. Watch for the Chancellor’s kickoff, new resources, and activities from across the A&M System.

Week 2 | Build AI Capabilities

Build skills you can use in school, work, and everyday life through the Grow with Google AI Certificate, workshops, and other learning opportunities.

Week 3 | Use AI Responsibly

Explore responsible AI use, including ethics, bias, privacy, misinformation, and the importance of knowing when and how to rely on your own judgment.

Week 3 also kicks off the Student AI Buildathon, powered by Superhuman Go, where students can put their growing AI skills to work.

Week 4 | Apply AI

Take what you’ve learned and use it! Complete and submit Buildathon projects, see what other students across the A&M System are creating, and celebrate outstanding projects through a systemwide showcase.
