COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp today announced that the A&M System successfully launched Workday’s Human Capital Management (HCM) tool on time and approximately $3 million under budget.

Workday HCM replaces a 37-year-old payroll system with a cloud-based human resources and payroll system, impacting more than 48,000 faculty, staff and student workers and 10,000 retirees across the A&M System. The 27-month, $54 million dollar project began in October 2015 and went live on December 17, 2017.

“The A&M System has entered the 21st century, launching a common, super-modern HR and payroll system that was agreed upon by all members of the A&M System,” Chancellor Sharp said. From the beginning, collaboration between the project team and system members was a key element of the project, with each phase of the project incorporating increasing numbers of member subject matter experts to design and test the System. “We have also streamlined many of our HR and payroll processes, which will help us focus on our mission of teaching, research and service.”

“With Workday, the A&M System experiences a fundamental transformation in how we do our HR, payroll and benefits work, moving from a home grown, green-screen payroll system to a cloud-based solution offered by the market leader,” said Mark Stone, Chief Information Officer for the Texas A&M System.
