Human Subjects
The Texas A&M University System is committed to the ethical principles for the protection of human subjects in research set forth in the Belmont Report of the National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research, and in state and federal law. Each system member that is involved with research on human subjects shall develop or designate a registered Institutional Review Board (IRB) to implement the human subjects policies.
The Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects, or the “Common Rule”, was revised on January 19, 2017. The general compliance date of the revised Common Rule is January 21, 2019, while the revisions to cooperative research and the use of single IRB compliance date is January 20, 2020.
