Removing polyps reduces the risk of colorectal cancer and can save lives. Recently, there have been updates to the recommendations for screening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 22px;font-size: 15px\"><strong>How do I know if I might have colon cancer?\u00a0<br \/><\/strong>Never ignore warning signs. If you experience any of these symptoms, please talk to your provider, regardless of age.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"line-height: 22px;font-size: 15px\">Blood in stool<\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 22px;font-size: 15px\">Change in bowl habits or shape and size of stool<\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 22px;font-size: 15px\">Rectal pain<\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 22px;font-size: 15px\">Abdominal pain<\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 22px;font-size: 15px\">Unexpected weight loss<\/li>\n<li style=\"line-height: 22px;font-size: 15px\">Unexplained or new anemia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Currently, there are 2 recommended screening options for colorectal cancer. If you have a family or personal history of colorectal cancer or polyps, your provider may recommend earlier, or more frequent screening and a colonoscopy may be the preferred test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colonoscopy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1-step test. A procedure that allows your doctor to see and remove precancers, or polyps.<\/li>\n<li>Used to prevent, detect or confirm colorectal cancer or other gastrointestinal issues.<\/li>\n<li>Recommended at least every 10 years<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/latest-news\/how-to-prep-for-a-colonoscopy.html\">How to prep for a colonoscopy<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stool based test<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 or 2 step test. Includes the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) or Multitarget Stool DNA or RNA test (Cologuard, ColorSense).
