(College Station)—Texas A&M University's Office of International Agriculture will partner with Tikrit University as part of rebuilding efforts in Iraq, officials announced June 19.
Expertise will be offered in various capacities involving agriculture.
"An exchange of teaching and research will be facilitated by this agreement," said Edwin Price, associate vice chancellor for international agriculture and federal relations. "We're pleased to be entering this partnership and look forward to offering education and outreach to assist rebuilding efforts."
While the international agriculture office will be working primarily in the field of agriculture, Price said, it will be seeking other partners to provide assistance in the fields of medicine, engineering, science, veterinary medicine, law and education.
"Texas A&M Agriculture has a wealth of expertise and research to assist the rebuilding effort," said Elsa Murano, vice chancellor and dean of agriculture and life sciences at Texas A&M. "We look forward to working with Tikrit University and those directly involved in agricultural production."
Texas A&M International Agriculture has involvement in other agriculture
efforts globally, with active programs in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe,
Latin America and the Middle East.
