(Killeen)—Richard Hendee of the Greater Texas Foundation presented Tarleton-Central Texas officials with the award check last week and indicated that the Foundation was pleased to participate in the development of higher education in central Texas.
The endowed fund will be held in perpetuity and only the interest earned on the fund will be used to award scholarships to students studying at Tarleton-Central Texas. The fund will transfer to the future Texas A&M University-Central Texas and will continue to benefit students studying in central Texas.
Tarleton-Central Texas is now faced with the challenge of securing at least matching funds, with the goal of exceeding just a match, from other sources. Those additional funds will be used to enhance other already existing endowed scholarship accounts or to establish new endowed accounts in the name of the donor and in accord with their wishes.
"We are so gratified to receive this generous grant," said Dr. John Idoux, executive director of Tarleton-Central Texas. "The Greater Texas Foundation has recognized the need and potential in our central Texas region, and the grant is a statement of their confidence that we will meet the challenge and raise the additional funds to match their gift."
Dr. Idoux says that several pledges have already been received and he looks forward to working with other groups and individuals to exceed the goal.
All of the scholarship funds will enable the University both now and in the future to provide quality, affordable higher education to all Central Texans and will furnish students with the resources necessary to achieve their higher education goals.
The Greater Texas Foundation, located in Bryan, was founded in 2001 and has three purposes: to help remove barriers for Texans seeking higher educations; to increase the opportunity for academic success; and to enhance the quality of graduates’ lives after graduation.
