Texas A&M University-Texarkana has an open door admissions policy.
Analysis of the Criteria used to admit students
Three items are considered in determining the eligibility of an undergraduate student to be admitted to Texas A&M University-Texarkana. These items are: (1) completion of a minimum of 30 semester credit hours of college level work, (2) minimum 2.00 grade point average, and (3) student must have satisfied the Texas Success Initiative.
Criteria for Financial Aid
- First generation student status
- Financial need
- Enrollment in a specific number of hours
- Enrollment in specific semesters
- Submission of financial aid application by preset deadline
- Date of financial aid application (first-come; first-served)
- Expected family contribution
- Cost of attendance
- Other financial factors beyond need
The criteria selected above are for need-based aid. Additional criteria includes: residency, citizenship, outside resources received, default status, good standing with the university, and all documentation required for admission to the university being received by the Admissions Office. The majority of students who successfully complete the financial aid/scholarship process at A&M-Texarkana are eligible for some type of financial assistance. The student has the option of accepting or rejecting any or all of their awards.

Analysis of the criteria used to award financial aid
For need based aid, students whose financial aid file is complete by the May 1st deadline are given "preference" to federal, state, and institutional aid. All remaining applicants are awarded as their files are complete. Awards are based on availability of funds. For merit-based scholarships, students must submit a scholarship application by the preset deadline and meet all criteria for each scholarship. Scholarships are awarded to students with the highest eligibility.
Comparison of this institution to peer institutions in-state and out-of-state
A&M-Texarkana charges the lowest tuition and fees of any public university in the state of Texas based on the 2007-2008 College Costs compiled by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Fifteen semester credit hours of undergraduate in-state tuition for two semesters at A&M-Texarkana costs $3,721. We also charge lower tuition and fees as compared to 4 out of 5 of our out-of-state peer institutions. Tuition and fee costs for our out-of-state peer institutions listed below are based on 15 semester credit hours of undergraduate in-state tuition and fees for two semesters as reported by the Cashier's Office of each institution for the 2007-2008 academic year: Governor's State University, University Park, Illinois - $5,966; University of Illinois, Springfield, Illinois - $7,848; Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, Arkansas - $5,224; Louisiana State University-Shreveport, Shreveport, Louisiana - $3,520.80; and Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Alva, Oklahoma - $3,750. The low cost of tuition and fees coupled with our open door admissions policy makes A&M-Texarkana affordable and accessible to students.
