William J. (Jan) Faber Managing Counsel, Institutional Compliance
Jan is Managing Counsel for the Institutional Compliance practice section and Liaison for Prairie View A&M University. His compliance practice focuses on animal law, research compliance, environmental health and safety law, immigration law, export controls, and federal educational compliance rules. He represents the System and its members in internal hearings and before federal agencies and regulatory bodies like the Department of Education and the FAA, EPA and TCEQ.
Jan is a 1974 distinguished military graduate of Texas A&M University where he was active in the Corps of Cadets, Ross Volunteers and Student Government. He was commissioned that same year in the United States Air Force and then attended law school and became a member of the Judge Advocate General's Department after graduating from South Texas College of Law in 1977. His military assignments included Clark AB, Republic of the Philippines, RAF Alconbury in the United Kingdom, Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom, HQ USAF Washington D.C., and Staff Judge Advocate at Vandenberg AFB in California and McGuire AFB in New Jersey. In 1999, he retired from the Air Force to accept his current position with the Office of General Counsel.

Civic Involvement He is a 2002 graduate of Leadership Brazos. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Camp Allen, a retreat center and camp owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. He has formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Episcopal Foundation of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, was a member of the Community Advisory Board for the Junior League, and Board of Directors for the Health for All Clinic.
